CREATIVE SERVICE

I had the privilege recently of writing a series of short devotions for the spring choir tour of Fourth Baptist Christian School. The devotions were based on four of the songs they were singing on tour.

Then I was asked to write a choric reading for the Tween Choir from First Baptist Church of Maxwell, Nebraska, where we ministered for many years. They needed a reading based on the names of God in the song “El Shaddai.” You will find that Reader’s Theatre script below which you are welcome to use as well.

THE NAMES OF GOD – READER’S THEATER

Based on the song “El Shaddai.”

The designations of DARK and LIGHT can be used in two ways. DARK can refer to the male voices and LIGHT to the female voices. OR DARK can refer to the vocal descriptions of Bass and Alto while LIGHT can refer to the vocal descriptions of Tenor and Soprano.  Choose what works best for the group performing.

DARK SOLO:            El Shaddai? What does it mean?

ALL:                           El Shaddai?

LIGHT SOLO:           A name for God. It means Almighty.

ALL:                           El Shaddai. Almighty God.

ALL LIGHT:              El Elyon? What does it mean?

ALL DARK:              What does it mean? God most high.

ALL:                           El Elyon. God most high.

LIGHT SOLO:           Erkamka na Adonai? What does it mean?

DARK SOLO:            I will love you, O Lord.

LIGHT SOLO:           Lord?

DARK SOLO:            Ruler. King. His Majesty.

ALL:                           I will love you, O Lord.

ALL LIGHT:              Age to age you’re still the same.

ALL DARK:              El-Olam, the Everlasting One.

ALL LIGHT:              You are the God who really sees.

ALL DARK:              El-Roi. The God who sees all.

LIGHT SOLO:           Christos?

DARK SOLO:            Messiah?

LIGHT SOLO:           The Anointed One, in Greek.

DARK SOLO:            The Anointed One, in Hebrew.

ALL:                           Christos. Messiah. The Anointed One.

ALL DARK:              Christos.

ALL LIGHT:              Messiah.

ALL DARK:              El-Roi.

ALL LIGHT:              El-Olam

ALL DARK:              Adonai.

ALL LIGHT:              El-Elyon.

ALL:                           El-Shaddai.

DARK SOLO:            What do they mean?
