POMEGRANATE THEOLOGY

POMEGRANATE THEOLOGY

Psalm 90 assures us that the glory of God can be seen in all His creation.

So, consider the theology of the pomegranate.

God cares! The tough exterior or epicarp of the pomegranate protects the tender interior of mesocarp. Each individual seed receives the personal care of the unique packaging. God cares for each one of up to 1400 seeds in a single promegranate.

God provides! The abundance of fruit within a single pomegranate demonstrates the abundant provision God makes in all creation. The season of Thanksgiving should remind us of the fact that God provides. He has given “abundantly above all that we can ask or think,” (Ephesians 3:20).

God blesses! The pomegranate is designed to bless. Each seed bursts with health and goodness, refreshing those who taste. Some studies have shown pomegranates to be effective in preventing cancer. In a similar way, God has designed each of us to bless others in a variety of ways.

God plans! Every individual seed in a pomegranate is capable of producing a tree that will bear 100-150 pomegranates annually. God has given us the privilege of producing a godly heritage, raising children who love Him, and sharing the Gospel which produces a spiritual heritage.

Can we apply the lessons of the pomegranate to ourselves in this fashion? We have no greater example than Jesus Christ Himself who shared the theology of the sparrow and concluded, “you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:31).
