CREATIVE SENIOR MINISTRY

Last week a group of Senior Saints traveled down to the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum near Granite Falls, Minnesota. The trip was only one of the exciting weekly adventures of the Golden Agers from Fourth Baptist Church of Plymouth, Minnesota.

Pastor Jared Page has a unique job description at the church. He is the Pastor of Students and Seniors. Within one week it is not unusual for him to teach Children’s church, provide an AWANA lesson, and plan a meeting or trip for the Golden Agers. The Senior group at Fourth was started in 1982 by Norm Monroe. More recently it was under the leadership of Jim McLeish, who Pastor Page replaced when Jim retired.

“The most memorable event we have taken was a trip to Branson,” writes Jared. “We had so much fun during that week and some really memorable experiences.” Generally the weekly meetings are held at the church and include a luncheon. Speakers include missionaries, local hobbyists, and Minnesota historians. I have had the privilege of presenting the life of Evangelist Billy Sunday, a lesson on writing your family history, and another one on creative Christianity.

Pastor Page says, “My favorite part of the meeting each week is the time we spend in prayer. The folks share burdens as well as blessings and we pray for one another.” The psalmist said, “Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations,” (Psalm 90:1). Jared Page has accepted the privilege of ministering to both ends of that spectrum.
