CREATIVE SLIDE PROJECTOR
Thirty years ago my father carefully
placed slides into his projector, preparing for a multi-state preaching tour.
After twenty-nine tours to Israel, his specialty lay in prophecy conferences.
He chose carefully because he had taken thousands of slides on those trips.
That summer my brother David noticed
some erratic driving on the part of Dad and suggested a physical before driving
all those miles. With the discovery of a brain tumor, the tour had to be
cancelled. Seven weeks later, my father moved up to heaven.
I inherited the slide projector and
for years it sat in storage. After all, we had moved on to Power Point and
video. When our son Chris asked about the projector however, I knew exactly
where to find it. The slide carousel still held one hundred pictures from the
Holy Land.
Chris was preparing a video
presentation for Good Friday and Easter for Eaglebrook Church where he works.
The team writing the script thought it would be fun to feature a throw-back to
the days of slide projectors as part of the film. So, Dad’s old projector
became part of a modern video. The story of Christ’s death and resurrection, a
presentation of the gospel, was told through slides as part of the video presentation.
During Good Friday and Easter services this year, several thousand people heard
the gospel by means of Dad’s old projector.
I miss Dad. One of my favorite memories
from childhood was viewing his Holy Land slide presentations. But I am thankful
that his projector could be used creatively to present a gospel which will
never change.
