CREATIVE ADVICE

Once in a while a book comes along which I wish I had been able to read when I was younger. Beguiled by Brothers , by Joseph Nemer is just such a book. Writing from the perspective of thirty-four years as a pastor in Michigan, Nemer offers practical advice for those who face conflict in ministry. “Dealing with difficult people is one of the most problematic and strenuous tasks for pastors who are called by God to faithfully preach Christ and His Word and to unselfishly serve their congregations,” he writes. The book provides Biblical examples of betrayal, discusses the effect of conflict on the pastor’s family, and offers practical solutions for both prevention and proper handling of conflict. In appendices Dr. Nemer also offers some case studies from a survey and guidelines for churches facing conflict. I know personally that some of the conflicts my father faced in ministry affected the way I handled certain situations in my own ministry. I would highly recommend this boo

CREATIVE READING

The Storyteller's Bible: Arranged for Four Voices The scripts in The Storyteller’s Bible can be used in a variety of settings. Individual scenes are appropriate as parts of Christmas or Easter programs. They can be used to introduce a sermon series or Sunday school lessons. The eight parts cover the entire scope of scripture. Using parts one through eight over an eight-week period will expose listeners to the entire story of the Bible. This could be done in a youth group, on a Sunday night or all in one day with a break in the middle for lunch. Such a dramatic presentation of the entire scope of the Bible will have a lasting impact on those who listen as well as those who perform. Using the scripts in family devotions, one scene at a time, will introduce children to the meta-narrative of the Bible. An eight-week adult Bible study series will provide an introduction to the entire Bible in a brief period of time. Four individuals who desire a greater understanding of the story of

CREATIVE MINISTRY

Revitalization! Barnabas Ministries seeks to fill a pressing need in rural America. Churches in small communities are struggling, and some are closing. Don and Renee Tuggle desire to do something about that. After forty-eight years in ministry, Don is approaching retirement. He has pastored, served as a hospital chaplain, jail chaplain and prison chaplain. His desire for Barnabas Ministries is to come alongside struggling churches and see them revitalized. The opportunities are unlimited. He is available for pulpit supply, missions conferences, revivals, soulwinning conferences, interim pastorates, and any other help he can provide to churches and pastors. Tuggles have purchased a motorhome to facilitate the fulfillment of their goals. Until retirement from hospital chaplaincy in 2025, they will be available to churches within four hours of North Platte, Nebraska. After that time, Barnabas Ministries will go anywhere the Lord leads. If you know of a church that would profit

CREATIVE ACTING

The Chosen is a television drama based on the life of Jesus. The final episode of season three, “The Feeding of the 5,000,” will include an appearance by Shelli Virtue. Those who chose to provide support for the crowd-funded project at a certain level were invited to be extras in the film-making process. Shelli spent a week in Texas as one of the 5,000, so she doesn’t hold great hopes of actually appearing on screen when the episode airs. But “the experience of being part of something like this was far more exciting to me than the possibility of being on camera,” she writes. The one part of the scene where you might see her includes the section where the disciples are passing out bread. Luke Dimyan, who portrays Judas, handed her bread three times because the scene had to be filmed in three takes. The reason Shelli chose to make the trip to Texas at her own expense stemmed from a new ladies Bible study she is writing, focusing on lessons to be learned from the disciples. For
