CREATIVE RETIREMENT VILLAGE

Image
Two hundred and fifteen acres in central Florida. A golf course, mini-golf, disc golf, shuffleboard, horseshoes, a picnic pavilion, fishing in three lakes, and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Sounds like a great place to retire. Maranatha Village has been incorporated since 1973 with one hundred and thirty-nine duplexes, a one-hundred unit mobile home park, an assisted living facility and an RV park. Everyone coming to the Village for more than a month signs a doctrinal statement of principles and practices. Residents purchase a life-lease according to the size of the unit. Gerry Carlson, former president of Pillsbury Baptist Bible College, serves on the administrative team. He and his wife have been at Maranatha Village since 2014. An Independent Baptist Church on the grounds is pastored by Daryl Jeffers, a graduate of Central Baptist Seminary of Minneapolis. They hold three Bible Conferences and three musical concerts each year. Chapel services are held Monday through Friday.

CREATIVE DVD

From 1910-1915 Lyman Stewart bankrolled the sending of a group of books called “The Fundamentals” to people all over the world. The contributors to that book have in many cases fallen into obscurity. In order to remedy that, Jim Lutzweiler has produced a DVD (also available on flash drive) containing forty biographies of those who contributed to “The Fundamentals.” Jim’s interest in fundamentalism began when he was quite young. His father was a fundamentalist Baptist preacher, and the work is dedicated to him. Before his salvation he played the marimba in vaudeville. His father’s story was featured on the radio broadcast Unshackled in 1953 and that story is also part of the DVD. The project got underway when he served as archivist at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Forty sketches of contributors to “The Fundamentals” are presently included on the DVD. There are a total of seventy-seven people who either wrote essays or worked on the committee to produce the materials. Jim

CREATIVE COPING

Facing multiple system atrophy has been the greatest challenge ever experienced by Daisy Paige. It has definitely been an Unexpected Moment. Her choice to cope with her struggle by encouraging others is an inspiration to all those facing difficult medical issues. Daisy’s impetus for writing Unexpected Moments came from an unexpected meeting with Kirk Cameron. She shared her story with him, they prayed together, and Kirk told her she needed to share this story with others. When the manuscript was completed he wrote a personal foreword for the book. Unexpected Moments is available on Amazon.com and also at Daisy’s website Unexpected-moments.com. “If there is one thing I have learned from MSA,” writes Daisy, “it is not to take life for granted. Especially the little things like brushing your hair and teeth, bathing or walking. It can change fast. Now I can’t walk at all unassisted. If it weren’t for God, I would not have made it.” Ten percent of the proceeds from this book
